Merlion
The Merlion is an iconic symbol of Singapore, merging myth and modernity. This majestic statue features the head of a lion and the body of a fish, standing 8.6 meters tall at Merlion Park. It represents Singapore’s humble beginnings as a fishing village, known in Malay as “Singapura” or “Lion City.” Designed by Alec Fraser-Brunner in 1972, the Merlion attracts millions of visitors annually, offering panoramic views of the cityscape and Marina Bay. Its continuous water spout is a favorite for photographers, symbolizing life and prosperity. The Merlion remains a cherished emblem of Singapore’s rich cultural heritage and dynamic future.
